Fortunately, most people will never need to hire a lawyer. When circumstances make it necessary to engage one, finding and hiring a lawyer can be an overwhelming and difficult experience.

The following are questions you should ask any attorney you are considering hiring to represent you and your familyThis is particularly so when you or a loved one is diagnosed with cancer and are now confronting many important life-altering decisions including potential involvement in litigation.Selecting the right attorney quickly is important.

1) Who will be handling my case?
At Waddell Anderman, the lawyer you meet with during your initial consultation will be the same lawyer helping with, handling and representing your case. Some “advertising” law firms simply sign their “clients” to contracts and refer the case to another law firm. The lawyers you talk to may not be the lawyers that will handle your case. At the Waddell Anderman Law Firm, that will not happen.

2) Where will my case be filed?
At the Waddell Anderman Law Firm, your best interest will always come first when deciding where your case is filed. Although you may live in Louisiana or have been exposed to asbestos in Louisiana, some law firms will file your lawsuit in a different state. That decision may or may not be in your best interest.

3) Will you take my case to trial if that is what’s best for me?
At the Waddell Anderman Law Firm, we are willing to go all the way for you to have your day in court if that’s what it takes to get the job done. At all times, the Waddell Anderman Law Firm will keep you fully informed, counsel you and will always follow your instructions, whether it means a trial or a settlement without a trial.

4) How much will I have to pay in attorneys’ fees?
At the Waddell Anderman Law Firm, we handle cases on a contingency fee basis. We get paid only when you get paid; and there are no hidden fees or charges for handling matters that relate to your case. Some law firms may charge their clients additional fees for hiring other lawyers to handle lien issues. Some firms may charge for legal research. Some firms may increase their fees at various stages in the lawsuit such as trial or appeal. At the Waddell Anderman Law Firm, these things will never happen.

5) How much will I have to pay in costs?
The Waddell Anderman Law Firm will advance all costs associated with your case and only recoup those costs when we are successful in winning compensation for you. If no recovery is made, you owe us nothing.

6) How long will my case take?
Depending upon your health, you may be entitled to have your case in Louisiana prosecuted in an expedited manner. A living mesothelioma or lung cancer victim may be able to get an earlier than normal trial date because of his or her medical condition. You should find out how long the law firm expects the legal process will take. If the firm handles hundreds or thousands of other cases, find out how that will impact the handling of your case.

7) Why should I choose your firm to handle my case?
You need to find out about the track record of the specific lawyer who will be handling your case as well as the law firm’s track record. Items to consider include:

  • How many mesothelioma or lung cancer cases have they personally handled in Louisiana
  • How many of these Louisiana cases have they actually obtained a verdict
  • How many Louisiana jury trials have they successfully handled
  • How many Louisiana cases are they currently handling
  • How long have they been licensed to practice law in Louisiana
  • Is mesothelioma or lung cancer a focus for the law firm
  • Do they have a proven track record of individual client recoveries for the particular cancer, whether it’s lung cancer or mesothelioma

After receiving a diagnosis of an asbestos-related lung cancer or mesothelioma, you must find a successful, qualified and reputable attorney that will litigate your case. Many asbestos victims are entitled to receive substantial monetary compensation from the companies that are legally responsible for exposing them to asbestos.

Choose your lawyer carefully. It is a critical decision that must be based on well-researched information and an interview(s). It is a decision about who you will be placing your trust to assist you with one of the most important legal and financial matters you have or will ever make.

You should choose the Waddell Anderman Law Firm because Cameron Waddell and Jody Anderman have a proven track record as Louisiana lawyers who have handled hundreds of cases for Louisianans since 1994. More importantly, with the Waddell Anderman Law Firm, you will receive the care and individual attention you deserve.
